Surround is an Atari 2600 game published by Atari, Inc. in 1977. Both players steer a line that moves continuously across the screen — you can change its direction but you cannot stop it. Crash into a wall, your own trail, or your opponent’s trail and you lose the point. The winner is whoever forces the other into a dead end first.
How to play
| Player 1 | Player 2 | |
|---|---|---|
| Steer | ↑ ↓ ← → | T G F H |
| Trigger | Spacebar | A |
| Turbo | Del | . |
Press F11 (SELECT) before the game starts to cycle through variations — some use screen wraparound, which changes the strategy significantly. F12 resets, Alt+P pauses, and F2 toggles black-and-white mode.
Tips
- Avoid long straight runs down the edges — you close off your own escape routes as fast as your opponent’s.
- Cut across the centre early to claim territory and compress the space your opponent can move in.
- Use turbo (Del / .) to slip through a gap or close one, but sparingly — outrunning your plan is as bad as crashing.
