Created by Joseph Marshall, Super Mario Kart Reversed n’ Remixed is a creative fan-made overhaul for the SNES that flips the classic kart racing formula on its head. Instead of simply mirroring the courses, this hack lets you race through all 20 original tracks in reverse. To make the backwards layouts work, many of the tracks have been manually adjusted with new starting areas and tweaked jumps, all accompanied by remixed course graphics, updated cup names, and new character palettes.
How to Play
The core racing mechanics remain untouched from the original game. Steer your kart with the D-pad, accelerate with B, brake with Y, and use items with A. The L and R shoulder buttons are essential for hopping into tight power-drifts. When playing in your browser, the D-pad maps to the arrow keys, with the SNES face buttons typically on Z, X, A, and S, and the shoulder buttons on Q and W.
Tips
- Relearn the racing lines: Approaching familiar corners and jumps from the opposite direction completely changes the flow of the tracks, so don’t rely on your muscle memory from the original game.
- Watch the AI: The computer-controlled opponents have had their pathing updated to handle the reversed tracks, but they can still struggle with certain jumps; use this to your advantage to pull ahead in technical sections.
