Released in 1998 for the Super Famicom by Intelligent Systems, Super Famicom Wars is a classic turn-based strategy game that laid the groundwork for the popular Advance Wars series. Taking command of the Red Star or Blue Moon armies, you must outmaneuver your opponent by securing funds from captured properties and deploying land, air, and sea units across grid-based maps.
How to play
Your goal in each scenario is to either capture the enemy headquarters or defeat all of their units. The game plays out in turns, where you move your forces, attack enemies, and build new units at your bases. Use the arrow keys to move your cursor across the map, the X key (SNES A button) to select units or confirm actions, and the Z key (SNES B button) to cancel. Press Enter (Start) to bring up the main menu and end your turn.
Tips
- Infantry and Mechs are the only units capable of capturing cities and bases; always build them early to secure a steady flow of income.
- Pay attention to the terrain: forests and mountains offer defensive cover for your troops, while roads leave them vulnerable to attack.
- Ranged units like Artillery and Rockets cannot move and fire on the same turn, so position them safely behind your frontline units to strike approaching enemies.
