About the Game

Sugoro Quest – Dice no Senshitachi is a unique board game and RPG hybrid released for the NES by Technos Japan in 1991. The game blends traditional role-playing elements with sugoroku-style board navigation, where your movement across the world map is entirely determined by dice rolls. You choose from one of four starting heroes and traverse the board, landing on spaces that trigger random events, enemy encounters, or towns where you can purchase equipment and talk to NPCs to advance the story.

How to Play

The objective is to complete quests and survive challenging combat encounters using a combination of strategy and luck. Battles are decided by rolling dice, which influence your standard attacks, magic, and item usage. Throughout your adventure, you can recruit creatures known as “dicemen” who possess distinct specialties to assist you in combat. In the browser, standard NES controls apply: use the Arrow keys to navigate menus and boards, Z and X for the A and B buttons to confirm actions and roll dice, Enter for Start, and Shift for Select.

Tips

  • Carefully manage your party’s dicemen, as their unique abilities are crucial for mitigating the luck-based nature of the dice combat.
  • Since movement and battles rely heavily on dice rolls, prioritize upgrading your gear at towns whenever possible to ensure you can survive unfavorable rolls during encounters.
