Spy Hunter is a vehicular combat game by Bally Midway, released in arcades in 1983 and ported to the NES. You drive a spy car through a continuously scrolling highway, shooting and ramming enemy vehicles while collecting weapons from a rolling Weapons Van. The mix of driving and combat made it one of the standout arcade hits of its era.

How to play

Survive as long as possible and rack up score by destroying enemy vehicles. Enemies include road cars that swerve into you, motorcyclists that drop bombs, and helicopters that strafe from above. Periodically, the Weapons Van enters from a side exit — pull alongside it to stock up on machine guns, oil slick, smoke screen, or missiles. When the highway transitions to water, your car automatically converts to a speedboat.

Tips

• Machine guns are the most versatile weapon — prioritise collecting them from the Weapons Van when it appears.
• Use the oil slick against cars closing from behind; it sends them into a spin without burning ammunition.
• Helicopters bomb in a predictable arc — keep moving laterally while firing upward to take them down before they cross your lane.
