Game description:

Special Criminal Investigation (also known as S.C.I.) is a high-speed vehicular combat arcade game released by Taito in 1989. Serving as the direct sequel to the classic Chase H.Q., it once again puts players in the shoes of detectives Raymond Broady and Tony Gibson. This time, you’re behind the wheel of a red Nissan 300ZX with a major new mechanic: firearms. Instead of simply ramming enemy vehicles into submission, your passenger partner can lean out of the window and shoot at criminal targets to stop them before the time limit expires.

How to Play

The objective is to catch up to the fleeing criminal’s vehicle within a strict time limit, then deal enough damage to disable their car. Default browser controls for arcade games are Shift to insert a coin, Enter to start, Arrow Keys to steer, and Z / X / C for your main actions (firing weapons, shifting gears, and accelerating/braking depending on the specific arcade cabinet layout).

Tips

  • Save your turbo: Nitrous boosts are limited. Only trigger them on straight stretches of road when the target is in sight. Using them in tight corners will usually cause you to crash and lose precious time.
  • Soften them up: Ramming the target car still deals heavy damage, but it can be risky. Use your gunfire to damage the criminal’s vehicle from a distance before going in for the final hit.
