Son Son Japan is the Japanese arcade release of Capcom’s 1984 side-scrolling action game. Based on the classic novel Journey to the West, the game plays like a hybrid of a platformer and a shoot ’em up. The screen constantly auto-scrolls while you guide the monkey boy SonSon across six horizontal platforms, shooting projectiles from his staff to fend off enemies and rescue his kidnapped friends.
How to Play
Your objective is to survive the auto-scrolling stages, defeat or evade enemies, and safely reach the statue of Buddha at the end of the journey. Use the directional controls (Arrow Keys) to jump up and down between the six stepped platforms, and press the action buttons (Z or X) to fire projectiles from your staff. You can also insert coins with Shift and start the game with Enter.
Tips
- Stay mobile: Since the screen forces you forward continuously, constantly shifting between the different platform heights is the best way to avoid being cornered by bats and bombers.
- Collect fruit: Keep an eye out for the various fruits and power-ups scattered across the platforms to maximize your score.
