Game description:

Sorcer Kingdom (also known as Sorcerer’s Kingdom) is a distinctive tactical role-playing game released for the Sega Genesis in 1992 by Nippon Computer Systems (NCS) and developed by Technical Wave. Unlike many traditional RPGs of its era, it eschews random encounters and standard experience points in favor of a grid-based combat system where character progression is directly tied to the actions performed in battle.

How to Play

You guide a party of young adventurers tasked by the king to explore dungeons, defeat monsters, and collect the Spirits of the World to seal away a rising evil. Combat takes place on a tactical grid where every action matters. Navigate menus and move your characters using the D-pad (mapped to the arrow keys). Press A, B, or C (Z, X, or C keys) to confirm or cancel actions such as attacking or casting spells. Press Start (Enter) to pause the game or access the main menu.

Tips

  • Action-Based Progression: Characters do not level up through generic experience. If you want a character to become a better spellcaster, have them cast magic frequently in battles. Their stats increase based on the specific actions they take.
  • Watch the Action Economy: Enemies can move once for every single action a party member takes. This often means the enemy side will have more total turns than your party. Plan your moves carefully and avoid leaving vulnerable characters exposed.
