Sonic vs Camera is a 2013 Sega Genesis ROM hack created by tuvit1997 for the Sonic Hacking Contest. This unique platformer takes the original Sonic the Hedgehog and turns the camera itself into an active gameplay element by removing the automatic follow system entirely.
How to Play
Instead of the camera following Sonic automatically, a second player must manually control the viewport. Player 1 controls Sonic with the standard D-pad and jump button (A, B, or C), while Player 2 uses their D-pad to move the camera and can press C to lock it in place. If the camera player fails to keep up and Sonic goes off-screen, he instantly loses a life. While designed for co-op, you can attempt to play it solo by managing both simultaneously for a massive challenge.
Tips
Communication is key if playing with a friend; the camera player needs to anticipate Sonic’s jumps and momentum through loops. If playing solo, make small, deliberate movements rather than trying to speedrun, as it’s very easy to lose track of Sonic when the screen isn’t perfectly centered.
