Game description:

Snap Jack is an arcade game released by Universal in 1982, blending the dot-collecting chase of Pac-Man with the forced horizontal scrolling of Scramble. You drive a car fitted with extendable, pogo-like legs that let it rise above the terrain, fleeing a swarm of jellyfish-like pursuers called Medusa Jacks as the scenery scrolls past beneath you.

How to Play

Your objective is to survive the scrolling course while collecting the dots scattered along your path. Every 20 dots you gather spawns a power dot; grabbing it grants temporary invincibility, letting you turn the tables and plow through the Medusa Jacks chasing you. Along the way you’ll need to dodge bouncing barrels, fiery comets, large predatory fish, and bridges that open and close, while the undulating terrain can cost you a life if you rise into the ceiling. Snap Jack runs on an 8-way joystick with no fire button, so in the browser you steer with the arrow keys alone. Press Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start.

Tips

  • Save your legs for the terrain, not just the enemies: raising your car clears low obstacles and ceiling dips, so read the scrolling ground ahead rather than reacting only to the Medusa Jacks.
  • Chase the 20-dot count: the power dot is your only offensive tool, so keep track of how close you are to the next one instead of just running from danger.
  • Use invincibility to reset space: when you grab the power dot, push into clustered pursuers to clear room around you rather than saving it for later.
