Despite its name, Atari’s 1978 action title Slot Racers is not a racing game, but a competitive maze shooter for the Atari 2600. Two players navigate blocky vehicles through labyrinthine arenas, hunting each other down in a head-to-head deathmatch to score hits.
How to Play
The objective is to hunt down and hit your opponent’s vehicle with missiles. The first player to score 25 points wins the match. Because this is strictly a two-player competitive game, it requires a second player on the same keyboard or a second gamepad.
Controls:
- Player 1: Arrow Keys to steer, Spacebar to fire.
- Player 2: T/G/F/H to steer, A to fire.
Tips
- Mind your ammo: Depending on the game variant, you may only be able to have one missile on the screen at a time. If you miss, you must wait for it to hit a wall or retrieve it before firing again.
- Ambush tactics: Use the maze corners to your advantage. Wait for your opponent to approach an intersection and fire as they turn into your line of sight.
