Shodai Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun is a 1992 beat ’em up and action RPG for the SNES, developed by Technōs Japan. Often considered a 16-bit successor to River City Ransom, this English-translated release follows Kunio and Riki on a trip to Osaka that quickly turns into a massive turf war. The game expands on the series’ signature brawling by dropping players into a free-roaming city where they can fight rival gangs, earn yen, and purchase items to permanently upgrade their stats.
How to Play
Your objective is to explore the streets of Osaka, defeat rival gang members, and level up your characters to take down tougher bosses. Since this is an SNES game, the default browser controls use the Arrow keys to move, Z to punch, X to kick, Enter for Start, and Shift for Select. Pressing punch and kick (Z and X) at the same time performs a jump attack, which is crucial for managing crowds of enemies.
Tips
- Take time to grind early in the game. Defeated enemies drop money, which you should spend on food and equipment to boost your stats before facing bosses.
- Make sure to rest and save your progress frequently at hotels. Getting knocked out will cause you to lose a significant amount of your hard-earned money.
