Shatterhand is a fast-paced action-platformer released for the NES in 1991. Known for its excellent 8-bit graphics and tight controls, it features a unique combat system where your primary weapons are your cybernetically enhanced fists. Instead of relying on guns, you must punch through a cyborg army, deflect enemy projectiles with your bare hands, and collect alphanumeric symbols to summon robotic companions.
How to Play
Fight through multiple side-scrolling stages to stop General Gus Grover’s mechanical forces. Punch the white item boxes scattered throughout the levels to reveal Alpha and Beta symbols. Collecting a combination of three symbols creates one of eight hovering satellite bots that fight alongside you using lasers, swords, or fire.
- Movement: Arrow Keys
- Jump / Punch: Z / X
- Start / Pause: Enter
- Select: Shift
Tips
- Unlock the armored suit: If you collect the exact same three-symbol combination while your current bot is active, you will temporarily transform into a powerful armored suit with a devastating projectile attack.
- Punch projectiles: Don’t just dodge incoming enemy fire! Your fists are strong enough to block and destroy many bullets if you time your punches correctly.
- Change symbols: If an item box drops a symbol you don’t want, punch the floating symbol to flip it between Alpha and Beta before collecting it.
