Shatterhand is a side-scrolling action-platformer developed by Natsume and released for the NES in 1991. You control a special agent equipped with cybernetic fists, punching your way through robotic enemies and heavily fortified stages. The game is highly regarded for its tight controls, excellent soundtrack, and unique power-up system.
How to Play
Your objective is to defeat the bosses of each stage and stop the rogue military faction Metal Command. Combat is primarily melee-focused. Control your character using the arrow keys (mapped to the NES D-pad) to move, the Z and X keys (A and B buttons) to jump and punch, and Enter (Start) to pause. By punching item boxes, you can collect alpha and beta symbols. Gathering three symbols in any combination summons a hovering satellite robot that fights alongside you.
Tips
- Robot Combinations: There are eight different satellite robots you can summon, depending on the specific combination of three alpha and beta symbols you collect. Experiment to find useful weapons like the sword, boomerang, or flamethrower.
- Super Armor: If you collect the exact same three-symbol combination while its corresponding satellite is already active, you will temporarily merge with it to don a powerful, invincible suit of armor.
- Deflecting Bullets: Your cybernetic fists are strong enough to destroy enemy projectiles. Time your punches carefully to swat bullets out of the air instead of just dodging them.
