Game description:

Sampras Tennis 96 is a classic sports title developed by Codemasters and released for the Sega Genesis in 1995. Endorsed by tennis legend Pete Sampras, the game offers fast-paced, arcade-style tennis action. It is particularly famous for its physical release as a “J-Cart,” an innovative cartridge design that included two built-in controller ports. This unique feature allowed up to four players to enjoy multiplayer doubles matches right out of the box without needing an external multitap adapter.

How to Play

The objective is to win sets by scoring points against your opponent through well-timed serves, volleys, and groundstrokes. The standard Sega Genesis controls are mapped to your keyboard:

  • Movement: Arrow Keys
  • A Button (Lob/Topspin): Z key
  • B Button (Normal Shot): X key
  • C Button (Slice): C key
  • Start Button: Enter

Tips

  • Master the Serve: Timing is crucial for a powerful serve. Try to hit the ball at the apex of the toss to maximize speed and make it harder for your opponent to return.
  • Use the Net: Don’t be afraid to approach the net for quick volleys, especially after a strong wide serve, but be ready to retreat if your opponent attempts a lob.
  • Mix Up Your Shots: Alternating between topspin drives, slices, and lobs will keep your opponent guessing and help you control the pace of the rally.
