Developed by Konami in 1986, Rush’n Attack (also known as Green Beret in arcades) is a grueling side-scrolling action platformer for the NES. You are dropped behind enemy lines to rescue prisoners of war, famously starting the mission armed with nothing but a combat knife. The game demands precise timing and route memorization, as you must constantly press forward while eliminating waves of charging soldiers and dodging mortar fire.
How to play
Your goal is to survive all six stages and destroy the secret weapon at the end of each. You must rely heavily on close-quarters combat, though you can temporarily capture special weapons like bazookas and grenades by defeating specific yellow-clad enemies.
- Movement: Arrow keys
- Attack (Knife/Weapon): Z
- Jump: X
- Select: Shift
- Start: Enter
Tips
- Master the timing of your knife thrust; you will need to attack slightly before an enemy enters your personal space to hit them safely.
- Save your captured heavy weapons for the gauntlet of enemies or bosses at the end of each stage.
- You can climb up and down ladders to quickly avoid incoming projectiles or bypass groups of soldiers on the main path.
