Rockin’ Kats is a 1991 NES action-platformer published by Atlus. You play as Willy, a cat whose main tool is a pneumatic punch gun — a spring-loaded boxing glove on a cord — which he uses to fight through multiple themed worlds.
How to play
The punch gun does double duty: press Z (B button) to fire it horizontally at enemies, or aim upward and fire near a ceiling ring to hook it and swing forward across wide gaps. Many of the game’s gaps are too wide to clear with a jump alone, so the grapple is a core movement tool, not just a weapon. Controls for Player 1:
- Arrow keys — move / duck
- Z — B button (fire punch gun)
- X — A button (jump)
- Enter — Start
- Shift — Select
Tips
- Spot ceiling rings before you reach the gap. The grapple has enough range to fire while still approaching — waiting until you are at the edge usually ends in a fall.
- Collect coins throughout each stage; they can be spent at the shop between worlds on extra lives and items that make later stages easier to survive.
