River Raid II is a 1988 vertical shooter developed by Activision for the Atari 2600 that significantly expands upon its classic predecessor. Instead of a continuous river flight, players take off from an aircraft carrier, manage their altitude to engage enemies or avoid terrain, and refuel mid-air before returning to the ship to land safely.
How to Play
Navigate the changing terrain, shoot down enemy fighters, and bomb bridges to score points. You must closely monitor your fuel gauge and altitude; flying too low over terrain results in a crash, while flying too high prevents you from engaging ground targets. Refueling requires flying over tankers at the correct altitude.

Tips
- Watch your altitude: You need to dive to destroy bridges or refuel, but pull back up immediately to avoid crashing into the riverbanks.
- Careful with tankers: Unlike the original game, you cannot just fly over fuel tanks on the water to refuel; you must match their altitude without shooting them.
- Takeoffs and landings: Pay attention to your speed when taking off from and landing on the aircraft carrier, as coming in too hot or too low will destroy your jet.
