Originally released for the Famicom (NES) in 1988 and later localized in North America as Phantom Fighter, this unique action RPG is based on the popular Mr. Vampire film series. You take on the role of a Daoist priest tasked with cleansing towns of Jiangshi (hopping vampires). Rather than traditional platforming, you explore villages and engage in one-on-one martial arts combat, upgrading your skills to survive increasingly difficult encounters.
How to Play
Your goal is to clear each town of Jiangshi to open the path to the next area. In the browser, the D-pad (Arrow Keys) moves your character, while ‘Z’ (A button) executes punches and ‘X’ (B button) performs kicks. Enter (Start) brings up your inventory and status screen. You must explore houses to find hidden enemies and defeat them in combat.
Tips
- Focus on upgrading your kicks early on, as they provide better range and damage against most Jiangshi.
- Defeating enemies yields scrolls, which you should regularly take to training dojos to learn new martial arts techniques.
- Purchase talismans from the shops in each townโthey are crucial for temporarily immobilizing tougher vampires in battle.
