Game description:

Pro Wrestling, released by Nintendo for the NES in 1987, is one of the foundational sports titles of the 8-bit era. It introduced a memorable roster of six fictional wrestlersโ€”including Starman, Fighter Hayabusa, and King Slenderโ€”each equipped with unique signature moves. Rather than relying solely on button mashing, the game features a pioneering grappling system where timing your moves during a clinch determines who executes a throw or hold.

How to Play

The objective is to drain your opponent’s stamina and pin them to the mat for a three-count, or win by ring-out if they stay outside the ropes for too long. In the browser, the NES controls map as follows: use the Arrow Keys to move around the ring, press X (A) for kicks, and Z (B) for punches. To grapple, walk directly into your opponent; once locked up, quickly press a directional key along with an attack button to execute a move. Enter acts as Start and Shift as Select.

Tips

  • Master the Grapple Timing: You cannot execute a slam or suplex until the two wrestlers lock up. The player who inputs their move right as the grapple animation begins will win the exchange.
  • Use the Turnbuckles: Climb the corner ropes by walking into them and pressing up, then hit an attack button to launch a high-risk flying attack. Be careful, as missing will cause significant damage to yourself.
  • Know Your Signature: Every character has a specific strong attack, such as Starman’s Flying Cross Chop. Experiment with each wrestler to find the moves that work best for your playstyle.
