Popeye (Japan) is a classic arcade-style platformer released for the NES. Players take on the role of the famous sailor, navigating through single-screen stages to collect items dropped by Olive Oyl while constantly evading the relentless pursuit of his rival, Bluto.
How to Play
The objective is to catch Olive Oyl’s hearts, musical notes, and letters across three different stages before they sink. Grabbing a can of spinach grants temporary invincibility and the power to knock Bluto into the water. For NES controls in the browser, use the arrow keys to move up and down stairs or across platforms, and the Z key to punch.
Tips
- Use the screen wrap feature at the edges of the first level to quickly escape from Bluto.
- Punching the sea hag’s thrown bottles can save you when cornered, but timing is crucial.
- Save the spinach can for when you are trapped, as it only appears once per level.
