Game description:

Platoon for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is a 1988 action game developed by Sunsoft, adapting Oliver Stone’s acclaimed film into a multi-genre experience. Rather than sticking to a single style of play, the game is split into distinct stages that mirror the movie’s progression. You begin by navigating a side-scrolling jungle maze, using explosives to clear paths and engaging enemy combatants. Later stages switch the perspective entirely, dropping you into a tense, first-person underground tunnel network where you must find an exit before your flashlight battery dies, followed by an arcade-style bunker shootout and a final confrontation against Sergeant Barnes.

How to Play

Your objective is to survive the four distinct stages and defeat the final boss. In the browser emulator, the original NES controls are mapped to your keyboard: use the Arrow Keys to move or aim, Z for the A button (jump), and X for the B button (shoot/attack). Press Enter for Start and Shift for Select.

Tips

  • Map the tunnels: In the first-person tunnel maze (Stage 2), draw a map or hug the left wall consistently to avoid getting lost, as your flashlight battery drains rapidly over time.
  • Manage your items: In the first stage, you can find hidden rooms by using explosives on specific trees and trapdoors. Stockpile ammo and health items early, as you will need them for the punishing later stages.
