Originally developed by Atari Games in 1990 and known for pioneering the use of digitized graphics, Pit Fighter is a gritty underground fighting game. This Sega Master System port brings the brutal tournament brawler to the 8-bit console. Players select from three distinct fightersโBuzz, Ty, or Katoโand battle through various seedy arenas to become the ultimate champion, dealing with interactive crowds that shove players back into the action.
How to play
Your goal is to survive a series of underground matches and defeat the champion. In the browser, use the Arrow Keys to move your fighter around the arena. Press Z to punch and X to kick. Pressing both buttons together unleashes your character’s unique special move. You can also pick up discarded weapons from the ground to deal extra damage, but beware of the crowd, as spectators will occasionally push you or even attack if you get too close to the edge.
Tips
- Use the power pill: Keep an eye out for the glowing power pill that occasionally spawns; grabbing it will temporarily make you invincible and increase your attack power.
- Manage space: In matches with multiple opponents, try to line them up on one side so they can’t surround you. Use jump kicks to quickly reposition if you get trapped.
- Special moves are risky: While powerful, your character’s special move takes time to execute. Only use it when you have a clear opening, as a miss will leave you vulnerable to counterattacks.
