Lode Runner Set 2 is an alternate arcade ROM revision of Lode Runner, the puzzle-platformer Irem brought to arcades in 1984 under license from Broderbund. It plays out the same core game as the original release: you guide your runner through multi-tiered brick levels, collecting every piece of gold while staying a step ahead of the guards chasing you.
How to Play
Clear each screen by gathering all the gold, which opens the ladder to the next stage. Move with the Arrow Keys. Your character cannot jump, so instead you dig temporary holes in the brick floor with Z (dig left) and X (dig right) to drop through floors or trap pursuing guards. In this browser version, press Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start.
Tips
- Use holes offensively: A guard trapped in a hole when it closes back up is defeated and has to respawn from the top of the screen.
- Cross safely over guards: While an enemy is stuck in a hole, you can walk straight over its head to clear a gap.
- Watch for stolen gold: Guards will pick up nearby gold if you leave it unguarded, so trap them in a hole to make them drop it again.
