Master of Darkness is a 1992 action-platformer for the Sega Master System that serves as Sega’s direct answer to Castlevania. Playing as the psychologist Dr. Ferdinand Social, you must battle your way through five stages of Victorian Londonโincluding the Thames River, a house of wax, and a creepy cemeteryโto stop Dracula. Along the way, you can upgrade your primary melee weapons from daggers to rapiers and axes, while collecting secondary items like pistols, bombs, and boomerangs to handle enemies at a distance.
How to Play
Controls are mapped to standard Sega Master System inputs in your browser. Use the Arrow keys to move, climb stairs, and crouch. Press Z to attack and X to jump. To use your currently equipped secondary weapon (like the pistol or bombs), press Up + Z simultaneously.
Tips
- Your sub-weapon changes every time you pick up a new one. If you have a weapon you like, such as the boomerang or pistol, avoid touching different sub-weapon pickups.
- Melee weapons also replace each other. The axe deals heavy damage but has a short, slow swing, while the rapier offers excellent reach.
- Stairs work exactly like in the classic games that inspired it: you must press Up or Down to latch onto them, and you cannot jump while climbing.
