Game description:

Piranha is a 1981 Arcade hack of Namco’s Pac-Man, produced by GL and released in the United States by U.S. Billiards as both a conversion kit for existing Pac-Man cabinets and a dedicated machine. The dot-eating hero is reskinned as a piranha, and the four ghosts become nameless octopuses in the same red, pink, cyan, and orange as the originals. The maze itself is reworked too: instead of Pac-Man’s tight corridors, Piranha’s playfield is mostly open water, with just one tunnel on each side and another running through the top and bottom.

How to Play

Guide the piranha around the maze to eat every dot while avoiding the four octopuses. As an Arcade maze-chase game adapted for the browser, use the arrow keys to steer, with 5 to insert a coin and 1 to start.

Tips

  • Use the open water to your advantage: unlike Pac-Man’s narrow corridors, Piranha’s mostly open playfield gives you more room to change direction and shake off a chasing octopus.
  • Learn the tunnels: with tunnels on all four sides instead of just the middle two, you have extra escape routes when an octopus is closing in.
