Developed by Taito and released in 1990 for arcades, Aquajack World (also known as Aqua Jack or Aquattack) is a pseudo-3D sprite-scaling shooter where you pilot a heavily armed hovercraft across water and land. Set against the villain “Banglar” (tying it loosely to The Ninja Warriors universe), you navigate eight fast-paced stages, battling incoming waves of enemy aircraft, boats, and tanks.
How to Play
You control the hovercraft’s movement and targeting crosshairs simultaneously. Use the directional controls to steer and aim. Your primary weapon is a rapid-fire gun that can lock onto targets, supported by a limited stock of powerful missiles. You can also adjust your hovercraft’s speed to navigate tricky terrain and, unusually for a watercraft, jump to clear physical obstacles and evade enemy fire.
Tips
- Manage your speed: Don’t just stay in high gear. Slowing down makes it easier to navigate narrow river sections and avoid crashing into the banks.
- Use the jump defensively: The jump ability isn’t just for clearing barriers; it’s an essential evasive maneuver when the screen fills with enemy projectiles.
