Developed by Tecmo and brought to DOS in 1990, Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos is an iconic action-platformer known for its high difficulty and tight mechanics. As Ryu Hayabusa, you battle through challenging stages using his signature Dragon Sword and ninja arts, clinging to walls to overcome intricate vertical hazards while pursuing the villain Ashtar.
How to play
Navigate each stage, defeat enemies, and reach the end-level boss. The defining mechanic is Ryu's ability to summon shadow clones (“Split Phantoms”) that mimic your every move and attack, allowing you to deal massive damage. In this browser-based DOS version, use the Arrow keys to move and climb, while the action keys (typically Alt or Space for jump, Ctrl for attack) handle combat.
Tips
- Your shadow clones are invulnerable. Position them intelligently during boss fights to deal damage while keeping Ryu out of harm's way.
- Wall-climbing is crucial, but remember that you cannot attack while clinging to a wall. You must jump off to use your sword or sub-weapons.
