Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero is a 1997 action-adventure beat ’em up developed by Midway for the PlayStation. As a prequel spin-off from the main fighting series, it takes the familiar digitized sprites and combat mechanics of the arcade games and applies them to a side-scrolling platformer, following the Lin Kuei assassin Sub-Zero on a quest to retrieve an ancient amulet.
How to Play
Navigate trap-filled levels, solve inventory puzzles, and fight enemies using classic Mortal Kombat combos and special moves. You can play using the standard PlayStation browser controls: use the Arrow keys for movement, Z, X, A, and S for the face buttons (Cross, Circle, Square, Triangle), and Q, W, E, R for the shoulder buttons. Press Enter to Start and Shift for Select.
Tips
- Master the turn button: Unlike standard platformers, Sub-Zero does not automatically turn when you press left or right. You must use the dedicated turn button to face enemies behind you.
- Freeze before fighting: Use your ice freeze projectile frequently. Freezing an enemy lets you safely land a combo or simply walk past them to conserve health.
- Respect the jumping physics: Platforming uses fighting-game jump arcs. Line up your jumps carefully before committing, as you cannot adjust your momentum in mid-air.
