Game description:

Released in 1990 for the NES, Mendel Palace is an inventive action-puzzle game and the debut title from developer Game Freak. Playing as Bon-Bon, you navigate single-screen, grid-based rooms to rescue your kidnapped girlfriend. Instead of attacking directly, you must defeat the various walking dolls by flipping the floor tiles to send them sliding into walls or off the screen.

How to Play

The objective is to clear all enemies from the board before the time runs out. Since this is an NES game, the controls map the D-pad (arrow keys) to movement. The A and B buttons (mapped to the Z and X keys) are used to flip the floor tile you are standing on or facing. Start and Select are mapped to the Enter and Shift keys.

Tips

  • Positioning is key. Wait for enemies to step onto an adjacent tile, then flip it to launch them into a wall.
  • Keep moving to avoid getting cornered, as touching an enemy directly will cost you a life.
  • Look out for special floor panels that hide bonus items like stars. Collecting enough stars will grant you an extra life, which is crucial in the later stages.
