Game description:

Lost Worlds is Capcom’s 1988 arcade shoot-’em-up, released internationally as Forgotten Worlds — this is the original Japanese release, and the first game ever built on Capcom’s CP System hardware. It sends two jetpack-wearing super soldiers to battle Bios, a self-proclaimed god-emperor who has reduced Earth to a barren “Dust World,” across a series of horizontally scrolling stages packed with enemies and end-of-level bosses.

How to Play

Your soldier flies freely around the screen while a satellite drone orbits alongside, adding its own fire to yours. In the original cabinet, aiming was handled by a rotating “roll switch” that let you fire in any of sixteen directions without stopping to turn around; in the browser, movement and aiming are mapped to the keyboard instead. Use the Arrow Keys to fly and aim, Z to fire, insert a virtual coin with Shift, and press Enter to start.

Tips

  • Destroyed enemies drop Zenny, the in-game currency — spend it at the shops run by the traveling merchant Sylphie, which periodically appear mid-stage, to buy stronger weapons before the next boss.
  • The satellite drone’s aim follows your own while you’re firing, but repositions around you when you move without firing — use a quick pause between shots to swing it to cover a blind spot.
  • Because you can aim independently of the direction you’re flying, keep moving to dodge incoming fire while still shooting enemies approaching from the side or behind.
