Developed by Silicon & Synapse (the studio that would become Blizzard) and released in 1993, The Lost Vikings is a classic puzzle-platformer for the SNES. You take command of three distinct warriors who have been abducted by an alien emperor. Instead of controlling a single hero, you must switch between Erik the Swift, Baleog the Fierce, and Olaf the Stout, combining their unique skills to solve complex environmental puzzles and guide all three safely to the exit of each stage.
How to Play
Your objective is to reach the exit door with all three Vikings alive. If even one perishes, you must restart the level. Move and climb using the Arrow Keys. The browser emulator maps the SNES face buttons to Z, X, A, and S on your keyboard, which trigger each Viking’s unique abilitiesโlike Erik’s jump, Baleog’s sword, or Olaf’s block. Use Enter for Start and Shift for Select. You will need to switch between the three characters constantly using the L and R shoulder buttons (typically mapped to Q and E, or adjustable in the emulator settings).
Tips
- Use Olaf as a stepping stone: Olaf can hold his shield above his head to block falling hazards. Erik can jump on top of the raised shield to reach much higher ledges.
- Scout ahead: If you are unsure what dangers lie in a new area, send Olaf first. His shield blocks all incoming projectiles and enemies, keeping the others safe while you study the path.
- Move as a group: Because the level only ends when all three Vikings arrive at the exit, it is usually safer to advance them together rather than leaving one far behind in a puzzle-filled area.
