Knight Lore – Majou no Ookami Otoko is an isometric action-adventure game released for the Famicom Disk System in 1986. Originally developed by Ultimate Play The Game for the ZX Spectrum and ported to Nintendo’s disk add-on by Jaleco, the game puts you in the boots of Sabreman, an explorer cursed with lycanthropy. Trapped in Knight Lore castle, you have 40 days and nights to navigate its trap-filled, perspective-bending rooms to find the wizard Melkhior and brew a cure before the curse becomes permanent.
How to Play
Your objective is to explore the castle’s isometric rooms, locate specific objects requested by Melkhior’s cauldron, and drop them in the correct order to complete the potion. Time passes constantly, and day and night cycles will transform Sabreman between his human form and a werewolf, briefly freezing the action.
- D-Pad / Arrow Keys: Move Sabreman diagonally relative to the isometric perspective.
- A Button / Z: Jump over traps, spikes, and enemies.
- B Button / X: Pick up or drop an object.
- Start Button / Enter: Pause the game.
Tips
- Master the isometric movement: You can push objects (like tables or blocks) by walking into them, which is essential for building platforms to reach higher areas.
- Watch your step on screen transitions: Entering a new room while mid-jump or moving too fast can cause you to land on spikes or an enemy immediately. Pause briefly to assess each room.
- Use the day/night cycle: Some traps or enemies move differently or become more dangerous at night when you are a werewolf, so time your progression through difficult rooms carefully.
