Jetpack is a puzzle-platformer released for DOS in 1993 by Adept Software. You play as a treasure hunter navigating single-screen levels, using a jetpack and a phase shifter to collect every green emerald and reach the exit door. The game blends arcade action with careful fuel management and route planning, and is well remembered for its built-in level editor.
How to play
Your goal is to collect all the gems to open the door to the next level. Your jetpack allows you to fly, but fuel is limited and must be replenished by picking up fuel tanks. The phase shifter lets you temporarily disintegrate certain brick blocks to create paths or trap pursuing enemies. Use the arrow keys to move, and your browser’s DOS mapped action keys (typically Alt/Ctrl or Z/X) to fire your jetpack and phase shifter.
Tips
- Conserve fuel: Jetpack fuel runs out quickly. Walk or drop whenever possible to save fuel for when you really need it.
- Trap enemies: The phase shifter is an excellent defensive tool. Dig holes in the floor to trap roaming enemies so you can safely pass.
- Watch the timer: Blocks destroyed by the phase shifter will eventually regenerate. Make sure you are not inside a block when it seals back up, or you will lose a life.
