Duke Nukem II is a classic 1993 action platformer for DOS, developed by Apogee Software. Continuing the side-scrolling format of the original, players guide the wisecracking action hero through alien bases and ruined cities to stop the Rigelatins from conquering Earth. It combines fast-paced run-and-gun combat with expansive, labyrinthine levels that require finding keycards to progress.
How to play
The objective is to blast through enemies, avoid environmental hazards, and reach the exit of each stage while collecting weapons and health items. The game is controlled using standard MS-DOS keyboard inputs: use the Arrow keys to move and aim (including aiming upwards), Alt to jump, and Ctrl to shoot. You can also crouch and shoot downwards while jumping to deal with enemies below you.
Tips
- Always shoot boxes and radar dishes, as they frequently drop health items like soda and turkey, or weapon upgrades like the flamethrower and rocket launcher.
- If you find a rapid-fire weapon, conserve its limited ammo for tougher enemies and boss fights rather than wasting it on basic grunts.
- Look for hidden paths and shootable walls, as they often conceal extra lives, bonus points, and weapon drops.
