Nontan to Issho: Kurukuru Puzzle is a falling-block puzzle game released for the Game Boy in 1994. Based on the popular Japanese children’s book series, this title developed by Access takes a unique approach to the match-two genre. Instead of rotating the falling pieces, players must flip the double-sided blocks over to reveal different images on their reverse sides, matching pairs to clear the board.
How to Play
The objective is to clear matching icons and prevent the blocks from reaching the top of the screen. Blocks fall in linked pairs. Use the D-pad (mapped to arrow keys in the browser) to steer them left or right, and push down to drop them faster. Press the A or B buttons (Z or X keys) to flip the blocks and reveal their hidden reverse sides (for instance, flipping a fish reveals fish bones). Start and Select (Enter and Shift) are used for pausing and menu selection.
Tips
- Memorize the block pairs: Each icon has a specific counterpart on its reverse side. Learning these pairings is essential so you know exactly what will appear when you flip a piece.
- Utilize character heads: Special character “head” blocks appear occasionally and can clear out multiple blocks at once, making them crucial for escaping tight spots when the screen fills up.
