Iron Tank: The Invasion of Normandy is a vertical-scrolling shoot ’em up released for the NES in 1988 by SNK. Known as Great Tank in Japan, it puts you in control of a heavily armed tank battling through enemy lines, reminiscent of classic arcade titles like Ikari Warriors. As you navigate treacherous terrain, you must defeat enemy forces, manage your limited resources, and carefully aim your turret to survive the onslaught.
How to Play
Your objective is to push forward through enemy territory, blasting vehicles, infantry, and fortifications. Using the standard browser mapping for the NES, move your tank with the Arrow keys. Press Z to fire your main cannon and X to shoot your machine gun. To aim independently of your movement, hold X while pressing a direction on the Arrow keys to rotate the turret. Press Enter to access your sub-screen for managing power-ups and special weapons.
Tips
- Tap to aim: Because holding the machine gun button (X) can make movement clunky, try quickly tapping it in combination with a direction to nudge your turret into a new position without stopping your tank.
- Squash the infantry: You can run over enemy foot soldiers to earn small boosts to your energy, which is often safer and more efficient than trying to shoot them individually.
- Manage your resources: Keep an eye on your fuel and use the sub-screen to switch between different types of cannon fire or use reserve fuel tanks strategically.
