Ikari Warriors is a classic vertical run-and-gun shooter brought to the NES in 1987. Developed by SNK, you take on the role of elite commandos Ralf and Clark, battling through hostile territory to reach the enemy headquarters. The game stands out for its intense difficulty and the unique ability to pilot heavily armed vehicles like tanks and helicopters scattered across the battlefield.
How to Play
Your objective is to push forward through enemy lines, using your machine gun and limited grenades to clear a path. Because movement and aiming are tied together on the NES, you shoot in the direction you are walking. The browser controls map the NES D-pad to the arrow keys for movement. Press X (A button) to fire your weapon, Z (B button) to throw a grenade, Enter for Start, and Shift for Select. To enter or exit an empty vehicle, simply walk onto it and press A or B.
Tips
- The Continue Code: This game is famous for being brutally hard, but you can revive yourself right where you died. When you lose your last life, quickly press X, Z, Z, X (the classic A, B, B, A code) to continue playing.
- Manage Vehicle Fuel: Tanks and helicopters provide immense firepower and protection, but they constantly drain fuel. Keep an eye out for gas cans to refuel, and be ready to eject before your vehicle takes too much damage and explodes.
