Hyper Sports is Konami’s 1985 sports game follow-up to the iconic Track & Field, released here in its Japanese Famicom/NES version. While the original game was famous for pure button-mashing speed, this sequel shifts the gameplay focus toward careful timing and rhythm across a new set of events including skeet shooting, archery, the triple jump, and the high jump.
How to play
Your goal is to meet the qualifying score or distance in each event to advance to the next round. The controls still require rapid button presses to build speed or power, combined with precise action button presses to execute the move. By default for NES games in the browser, the D-pad is mapped to your arrow keys, A and B are mapped to Z and X, and Start/Select are mapped to Enter and Shift.
Tips
- Archery: The action button has a dual purpose here. Press it to determine the wind angle, then hold it to draw the bow. Release it when the angle is as close to 5 degrees as possible for a bullseye.
- Triple Jump: Build maximum speed on the runway, then focus heavily on the angles of your hop, step, and jump. Releasing at exactly 45 degrees on all three phases will yield the longest distance.
