Hudson’s Adventure Island III is a classic action-platformer released by Hudson Soft for the NES in 1992. Players once again control Master Higgins on a quest to rescue his girlfriend, Tina, from alien captors. The gameplay builds on the series’ signature mechanics, challenging players to navigate treacherous islands while constantly collecting fruit to keep their slowly depleting health meter from reaching zero.
How to play
You must race through each stage before Higgins starves, throwing axes or boomerangs to defeat enemies. A key feature of this third installment is the expanded inventory system, which allows you to store weapons and dinosaur companions between levels and equip them when needed. The game introduces new dinosaur mounts, including a Triceratops with a powerful rolling attack.
Controls: Use the Arrow keys to move and duck. Press Z to jump, and X to attack or throw weapons. Press Enter to start or pause. To use the menu, press Shift.
Tips
- Keep an eye out for hidden eggs containing keys; these unlock bonus stages or provide essential shortcuts to bypass difficult sections.
- Don’t bring your best dinosaur mounts into levels you haven’t played before. Save them for tough boss fights or challenging platforming sections where you know you’ll need the extra hits.
- The skateboard makes you invincible to some hazards and increases speed, but it prevents you from stopping easily. Avoid using it in vertical stages or areas requiring precise jumps.
