Golf is the classic sports title released by Nintendo for the NES in 1985. As one of the system’s earliest releases, it pioneered the genre by introducing the now-standard power bar swing mechanic and a wind-tracking system. Players navigate a full 18-hole course, selecting their clubs and carefully lining up each shot to beat the par score.
How to Play
Your objective is to complete the 18 holes with the lowest score possible by reaching each green and sinking your putts in as few strokes as you can. In the browser, use the Arrow Keys to aim your shot, change your stance, and select your club. Press Z or X (the NES A button) once to start your backswing, a second time to set your shot power, and a third time to determine accuracy.
Tips
- Always check the wind indicator before swinging; a strong crosswind will significantly push the ball in the air.
- When setting your accuracy on the downswing, hitting the white line exactly will produce a straight shot. Stopping early or late will cause the ball to hook or slice.
