Ganbare Goemon – Dero Dero Douchuu Obake Tenkomori is an action-platformer developed by Konami and released for the Nintendo 64 in 1998. Released in Western regions as Goemon’s Great Adventure, this entry returns the series to its classic side-scrolling roots after the fully 3D original N64 game. Players take on the roles of Goemon, Ebisumaru, Sasuke, and Yae in a colorful 2.5D Japan as they battle ghosts and demons to retrieve the Resurrection Machine from the villainous Bismaru. The game also features a simultaneous two-player co-op mode, letting two players explore stages and tackle bosses together.
How to Play
Your goal is to clear each side-scrolling stage, collect items, and defeat bossesโoften culminating in giant robot battles in the mighty Impact. Because this is a Nintendo 64 title, your keyboard or controller must be mapped to N64 inputs:
- D-Pad / Analog Stick: Move your character
- A Button: Jump
- B Button: Attack (Hold B while moving in towns to dash)
- Z / L Button: Fire projectile weapons or crouch in towns
- R Button: Use character-specific special abilities
- Start: Pause the game or access the status screen
Tips
- Collect Fortune Cats: Be on the lookout for hidden fortune cat items, as collecting them upgrades your weapon and armor, giving you a huge edge.
- Tag-Team Strategy: In two-player mode, you can ride on the other player’s shoulders. This is incredibly helpful for tricky platforming sections or getting past difficult enemies without taking double damage.
- Day and Night Cycle: The time of day constantly changes. Enemies are tougher and spawn more frequently at night, but they drop double the money, making it the best time to grind for ryo.
