Game description:

Released in 1993 for the Sega Genesis, the Japanese version of Flashback is a groundbreaking cinematic platformer developed by Delphine Software. You play as Conrad B. Hart, an agent of the Galaxia Bureau of Investigation who awakens in an alien jungle with wiped memories. Praised for its fluid, rotoscoped animation and atmospheric sci-fi narrative, the game blends careful exploration, environmental puzzles, and tactical gunplay.

How to Play

Your objective is to survive the treacherous environments, uncover the alien conspiracy, and piece together Conrad's lost identity. The game uses standard Sega Genesis controls: the D-pad (mapped to the Arrow keys) controls movement and aiming. Use the A button (Z key) to draw your weapon, the B button (X key) to fire or interact with the environment, and the C button (C key) to use items or run. Press Start (Enter key) to access your inventory.

Tips

  • Use your shield: Drawing your gun automatically activates a brief energy shield that can deflect incoming enemy fire if timed correctly.
  • Master movement: The rotoscoped animation means Conrad has momentum. Practice your running jumps and ledge grabs early, as precise positioning is required to navigate hazards.
  • Save carefully: Look for save stations (holocubes) throughout the levels, as they act as your only checkpoints when you lose a life.
