Flashback is a sci-fi cinematic platformer released for the SNES in 1993 by Delphine Software. Awakening in a lush jungle in the year 2142 with his memories erased, agent Conrad B. Hart must uncover his past and thwart an alien conspiracy threatening Earth. Known for its fluid rotoscoped animation and deliberate pacing, the adventure challenges you with precise traversal, environmental puzzle-solving, and methodical gunplay.
How to Play
The goal is to navigate each level by solving puzzles and surviving enemy encounters. Because actions rely on full character animations, timing and precision are more important than button mashing.
- D-pad: Move left or right. Press Up to jump or climb ledges, and Down to crouch or climb down.
- X Button: Draw or holster your gun.
- Y Button: When your gun is drawn, press Y to fire. When holstered, Y allows you to run (if held while moving) or interact with characters, elevators, and objects.
- A Button: Use the currently selected item from your inventory.
- Select: Open your inventory to select items like your shield or holocube.
Tips
- Master the Roll: While running, you can press Down to roll. This is essential for quickly dodging incoming enemy fire or crossing short gaps while staying low.
- Patience with Gunplay: Always draw your gun before entering a new screen or dropping down a ledge if you suspect danger. Firing takes a moment to animate, so being ready is crucial.
- Check Your Communicator: If you hear a beeping sound or feel lost, open your inventory and use the holocube. It often contains critical hints and messages for your next objective.
