Game description:

Fire Emblem: Monshou no Nazo (Mystery of the Emblem) is a defining 1994 tactical RPG developed by Intelligent Systems for the SNES. The release essentially packs two massive campaigns into one cartridge: a remake of the original Famicom title (Book 1) and a full-length sequel following Marth’s continued journey (Book 2). As a foundational entry in the series, it delivers signature grid-based strategic combat alongside the high-stakes permadeath system where fallen units are lost forever.

How to Play

Command your army across grid-based maps to defeat enemy forces, seize castles, and progress the story. Tactical positioning is critical to keep your fragile units alive while eliminating enemy threats.

  • D-pad (Arrow keys): Move cursor and navigate menus
  • A (X key): Confirm actions and select units
  • B (Z key): Cancel actions and view enemy attack ranges
  • Start (Enter): Open the main map menu
  • Select (Shift): View unit status screens

Tips

  • Check Enemy Ranges: Always press the cancel button while hovering over an enemy to see their maximum movement and attack range before committing your own units.
  • Use Chokepoints: Take advantage of narrow terrain like bridges or mountain passes. Place a heavily armored unit at the front to block the advance, while archers and mages attack safely from behind.
  • Protect Villages: Send Marth to visit villages as quickly as possible. If enemy thieves reach them first, the village will be destroyed and you will lose out on rare items or new recruits.
