Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa is a surreal, pastel-colored shoot ’em up developed by Sega for the Master System in 1987. As the sentient ship Opa-Opa, you fly freely left and right across brightly themed worlds, blasting bizarre enemies and collecting dropped coins. Unlike the original arcade game, this sequel introduces warp gates scattered throughout the levels, allowing you to travel between different zones to hunt down enemy bases before facing the stage boss.
How to Play
Your goal is to destroy all the enemy bases in each stage to summon the boss. Use the warp zones hidden behind certain bases to access the brighter and darker halves of each world. Between levels, or by touching a shop balloon, you can spend your collected coins to buy engine upgrades, temporary weapon power-ups, and extra lives.
- D-Pad (Browser: Arrow Keys): Move Opa-Opa in any direction.
- Button 1 (Browser: Z): Fire your main weapon (Twin Shots, Lasers, etc.).
- Button 2 (Browser: X): Drop bombs on ground targets.
- Start (Browser: Enter): Pause the game.
Tips
- Prioritize engines first: Your starting speed is incredibly slow. Buying the Jet Engine or Turbo Engine early makes dodging enemy fire much easier.
- Explore the dark zones cautiously: While the darker, hidden zones within a level often have tougher enemies, they also yield higher-value coins.
- Save your heavy weapons: Special weapons like the 7-Way Shot or Fire Bomb have limited ammo. Equip them right before touching the boss warp to melt their health bar instantly.
