Game description:

World Grand Prix is an early racing game released by Sega for the Master System in 1986. Unlike many racers of its era that pit you directly against other cars for position, this game challenges you to beat the clock across 12 distinct international tracks to qualify for the next round. Earning points through fast completion times lets you visit a shop to upgrade your car’s acceleration, handling, and top speed, adding a light progression system to the driving action.

How to play

The objective is to reach the finish line of each course before the timer runs out. Use the Arrow keys to steer left and right, and press Up or Down to shift gears manually. Press Z (Button 1) to accelerate and X (Button 2) to brake. Hitting other cars or obstacles will cause you to spin out and lose valuable time.

Tips

  • Always check the shop between races once you reach 100 points; upgrading your handling first makes navigating tight corners much easier.
  • Pay close attention to shifting gears; you will need to downshift to maintain control on sharp turns without spinning off the track.
  • Memorise the track layouts, as the time limits become increasingly strict in later stages, leaving no room for major crashes.
