Game description:

Family Tennis is a classic sports title developed by Namco and released for the NES in 1987. As the first installment in a long-running series, it stands out for featuring a diverse roster of playable characters, each with unique strengths, speeds, and playstyles. The game offers both singles and doubles matches, providing an accessible yet surprisingly deep tennis experience for the 8-bit era.

The objective is to outscore your opponent in a standard tennis match by carefully timing your swings and positioning your character on the court. On the NES, you move your player using the D-pad (mapped to the arrow keys). Press the A button (Z key) to hit a standard shot or serve, and use the B button (X key) for a lob. You can add spin or adjust the direction of your shot by pressing the D-pad simultaneously with the swing button. Use Start (Enter) to begin the game.

Tips: Pay attention to the unique stats of each character; choosing a player whose style matches your strategy is key to winning. When serving, timing is criticalโ€”try hitting the ball at the peak of the toss to maximize power. Also, utilize lobs strategically when your opponent rushes the net to force them back.
