Dropzone brings Archer Maclean’s frantic 1984 arcade-style shooter to the Game Boy Color. Released in 1999 by Awesome Developments and Acclaim Entertainment, this fast-paced Defender-style game puts you in control of a heavily armed, jetpack-wearing hero on the surface of Jupiter’s moon, Io. Your mission is to blast through waves of alien invaders and rescue stranded scientists before they are captured or destroyed.
How to Play
Fly left and right across the scrolling landscape to locate scientists. Pick them up and return them safely to your base while fending off alien attackers. Use your browser’s default Game Boy Color controls: the Arrow Keys move your hero (D-pad), while the Z and X keys act as the A and B buttons for firing your weapon and engaging smart bombs. Press Enter for Start and Shift for Select.
Tips
- Keep an eye on the scanner at the bottom of the screen to track both incoming alien formations and the locations of stranded scientists.
- Don’t hover in one place for too long; stay mobile to avoid being swarmed by enemy fire.
- Save your smart bombs for emergencies when you are completely surrounded, as they will instantly clear all enemies on the screen.
