Game description:

Double Dragon III: The Rosetta Stone is a classic 1991 beat-’em-up developed by Technos Japan for the NES. In this globe-trotting adventure, martial arts masters Billy and Jimmy Lee travel across the world to gather mystical stones and defeat an ancient evil. The game builds on the series’ tough brawling action by allowing you to recruit defeated bosses, letting you swap characters on the fly to utilize their unique fighting styles and weapons.

How to Play

Guide your fighters through side-scrolling stages, battling waves of enemies to reach the end of each level. For this NES title in the browser, use the Arrow Keys to move, Z and X for your attacks (mapped to the B and A buttons), Enter for Start, and Shift for Select. Pressing both action buttons simultaneously will perform a jump, setting you up for aerial attacks.

Tips

  • Use your recruits: Once you unlock new characters like Chin and Ranzou, swap to them from the pause menu. Their unique reach and weapons are vital for surviving tough stages.
  • Master the cyclone kick: The spin kick, triggered by attacking at the apex of your jump, is essential for crowd control when you get surrounded.
  • Conserve your health: The game is famously difficult with limited continues. Switch out your active character when their health is low to keep your whole team alive.
